In 1974, the United Nations (UN) established World Environment Day, and since 1974 we celebrate it every June 5.

Each World Environment Day focuses on a theme through which the UN seeks to raise public awareness about a pressing environmental issue. For example, last year, 2019, the theme was "air pollution," and in 2020, "time for nature."

Why is it celebrated on June 5th?

It is celebrated on June 5th because it coincides with the start of the Stockholm Conference held in 1972 , where the main topic discussed was precisely the environment.

How is it celebrated?

During International Environment Day, a multitude of activities take place: tree plantings, cleanup campaigns, street rallies, special programming in schools, roundtable discussions, photography exhibitions, and even television stations change their programming by airing documentaries.

Every year, a country hosts World Environment Day. Spain hosted this event in 2004 with the motto: Wanted: Seas and oceans—alive or dead.

This year, the host is Colombia, with support from Germany, and the focus will be on biodiversity.

To protect the environment, brands must offer cosmetics with high percentages of organic ingredients, as they do not use pesticides or herbicides that harm biodiversity by polluting water and soil. To choose these cosmetics, you should be familiar with the organic ingredients that natural cosmetic brands contain, paying attention to:

• Look for the % of organic ingredients on the label, which can be:
  • 0-10% organic ingredients are called natural only cosmetics.
  • From 10% to 90%: it is called natural cosmetics with a percentage of organic ingredients
  • 90 to 100% organic ingredients

If the percentage isn't listed, don't worry. You can choose organic products as follows:

• Look for the asterisks * after each ingredient (*organic ingredient)
• The more asterisks the first ingredients on the label have , the better, since the order of ingredients always appears from highest to lowest content in the cosmetic.

Therefore, to find the best cosmetic brands, you must know the percentage of organic ingredients in each of their products.
